Reinforcing HIV Viral Load Testing through EpiC Nepal in Makwanpur district
- November 23, 2025
The EpiC Nepal Project, implemented by General Welfare Pratisthan (GWP) in Makwanpur District, has made remarkable progress in supporting HIV epidemic control through efficient viral load (VL) sample collection and testing services. Recognizing the importance of viral load monitoring for people living with HIV (PLHIV), the project prioritized ensuring that all eligible clients were invited for sample collection in a timely and systematic manner. Field staff maintained close coordination with the ART centers and regularly followed up with clients to ensure no one was left behind. In several cases, the team went beyond the facility walls conducting home visits to collect viral load samples with the consent of clients who were unable to travel to ART sites due to health or mobility constraints. This personalized approach greatly enhanced service accessibility and client satisfaction.
The ART services in Makwanpur have remained consistent and client-centered, supported by the dedication of field staff who ensured the continuity of care. Regular coordination between GWP, ART sites, and the EpiC Nepal Project has led to improved efficiency in sample transportation, timely reporting of results, and effective follow-up on clients with high viral loads.
Through these collective efforts, the project has contributed significantly to the goal of achieving HIV epidemic control in Makwanpur by strengthening viral load testing coverage, improving treatment adherence, and promoting a culture of proactive care.
